The Course

The Estoril Golf Course has existed since 1929.

The original nine-hole course was commissioned by Fausto Figueiredo, who held the concession rights to the Estoril Casino. This course was designed by the Frenchman Jean Gassiat.

The 18-hole course, which opened in 1945, was designed by Philip Mackenzie Ross, a renowned Scottish golf course architect.

Later, in 1993, the golf course was modified to allow for the construction of the Lisbon/Estoril motorway. This adaptation was carried out by the French architect Jean Jean. As part of this transformation, hole number 9 disappeared, the configuration of hole number 13 was altered and another hole had to be built: a 151 metre par 3 between holes 13 and 14. Hole number 16 also had to be reconfigured to remain a par 3, resulting in the loss of one of the course’s best holes. The numbering of the holes also had to be changed.

The Championship Course is a par 69 (34:35), measuring 5189 metres.
